Mrs. Geromin's AP Government seniors came to speak to Mrs. Dillingham's 8th grade students about social issues. The SMS students will have the opportunity to reflect on their own interests and answer the question,What would you fight for? They will think of an issue that they care about and want to see changed in our school, community, or world. Students then will write and design their own magazine articles for a team magazine, implement an action plan related to their topic, and shared their learning at an expo they plan.
Ms. Tripp’s student selected someone that is a hero in his or her life and will then interview his or her chosen person. Several local heroes came in to talk to the students, and the students had the chance to interview each of them. Thank you to Mr. Bill Constant (8th grade Math/Algebra teacher at SMS and Navy veteran), Mrs. Ellen Peterson (7th grade Science teacher at SMS), Officer Paul Krohn, (IOW Police Department), Mrs. Jo Ann Qualls (Chorus teacher at SMS), LTC Peter Badoian (JROTC instructor at SHS), Mr. John Fitzgerald (Retired US Navy Corpsman, father, and husband) and Mrs. Gay Reilly (Marathon runner, retired teacher). Thank you for taking your time to speak to the students!
