Ms. Tripp’s student selected someone that is a hero in his or her life and will then interview his or her chosen person. Several local heroes came in to talk to the students, and the students had the chance to interview each of them. Thank you to Mr. Bill Constant (8th grade Math/Algebra teacher at SMS and Navy veteran), Mrs. Ellen Peterson (7th grade Science teacher at SMS), Officer Paul Krohn, (IOW Police Department), Mrs. Jo Ann Qualls (Chorus teacher at SMS), LTC Peter Badoian (JROTC instructor at SHS), Mr. John Fitzgerald (Retired US Navy Corpsman, father, and husband) and Mrs. Gay Reilly (Marathon runner, retired teacher). Thank you for taking your time to speak to the students!
November 2017 brings an exciting time for us in Smithfield, Virginia as we embark on a community project that will restore chemical-free
milkweed habitat for the monarch butterfly to raise her young in a pristine park location that can be enjoyed by young and old alike.
Colonial Badoian and his cadets from Smithfield High School visited each Civics class at SMS to talk about the upcoming blood drive at SHS. The cadets talked about the importance of giving blood as a contributing citizen of the community. In addition, 8th grade students learned about various reasons that would motivate an individual to give blood. Smithfield High School's blood drive will be held on November 29 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code: SHSbloodmobile to schedule an appointment.
