The School Board of Isle of Wight County recently approved several organization changes to the division. Kristy Buggs, Principal at Smithfield Middle School (SMS), has been named Instructional Coordinator of Student and Family Support. In her new role, she will address chronic student absenteeism across the division, a component of the IWCS All In plan submitted to the Commonwealth. Buggs has been at Smithfield Middle since 2021 Buggs has 12 years of teaching experience, including positions with Suffolk Public Schools, State College, PA and Isle of Wight County Schools. She served as the Assistant Principal at Windsor Elementary School and Carrollton Elementary School, and Principal at Georgie Tyler Middle School before being named Principal of Smithfield Middle.
Dr. Chelsea Kulp will join Smithfield Middle School as the building’s new Principal. Kulp has been with Isle of Wight County Schools since 2022 as an Assistant Principal at Windsor High School. She has previous experience as an administrator with Suffolk Public Schools where she served as Supervisor of Professional Learning. Prior to Suffolk, she was an Instructional Trainer and Program Director with Poquoson City Public Schools. Kulp began her career in education as an English teacher at both the middle school and high school level.
The new assignments are effective Thursday, February 15, 2024.
